Questions you might ask yourself:

First of all, let’s have a quick look at the OES:

        - The minimum size is 56cm for females and 61 for males. It weighs between 35 and 40 kgs.

        - Its body and back are grey, its neck and front paws are white

        - Its head is white, sometimes with a black stain (ear…). It can have blue or brown eyes or sometimes be wall-eyed.

        - The coat of an adult dog must be rough and shaggy.

In OES you can find the word “sheepdog” so he obviously needs to walk and run. But he can very well live in a flat if you can walk him regularly and thus enable him to exercise. He is a calm dog who, above all, needs to be with his master.

He really sticks to you like “glue”! He is always in need of a cuddle! He is a nice dog, close to children which is the reason why he was nicknamed “Nanny dog” in the USA.

He can also be very stubborn (but not aggressive) which means he needs (same with all dogs) a coherent and smooth education.

He is a good guardian and he will warn you when somebody comes for a visit. However, he is not a defence dog so don’t count on him to scare away thieves… He’ll be very delighted to meet them!

He has a thick coat which needs regular brushing but all the dogs (according to their age, the texture of their hairs) don’t need the same time of grooming, the average time is about 1 hour a week for an adult dog.

Some people shave their OES, it is possible and won’t change their friendliness but he will lose his “teddy bear” look. It is better than having a dog full of knots though.

An OES doesn’t have any specific needs as far as food is concerned but just like every dog, he needs to be fed correctly. You can find all sorts of quality dog food on the market, all prepared by nutritionists. So why take the risk of creating any nutritional deficiency by giving him your own food?

An OES is a robust dog who prefers a good walk to a visit at the vet. But don’t forget to vermifuge him regularly and to get him vaccinated once a year (Once again just like every other dogs)
